Morgan McCarthy

Vadim Epstein
On Wednesday night there were eight short talks on data-ish things at BDF lightning talks event. The ones that caught my eye:
Naked Energy build rooftop water heating systems which look very cool. The data problem is detecting leaks from pressure readings.
Anjani Sharma spoke about her history in automating jobs, and demoed n8n for drag-and-drop building of agents. My impression is that it's "if this then that" but you can drop an LLM and chat interface into it as a trigger to drive actions. The demo was going from a one-line chat to adding a calendar event and sending out an email.
Vadim Epstein is producing video experiences (not exactly movies) from LLM chat logs. How he does that in near real-time is a mystery to me, as I didn't get to the pub after to quiz him.
Business transformation needs stories, Morgan McCarthy told us. He worked in the water industry, and explained that people don't care about the 2 year company vision: tell them why the data/AI project means they won't be spending the night hitting a pump with a hammer while knee deep in effluent. And that they still get to keep their job. Then they'll get it.
He also pointed out that CEOs mostly think data products don't deliver them anything.
I also learned about a few other meet-ups in town:
