I prefer to subscribe to things via RSS, and I've now ended up with some high-volume feeds. Although I skim past much of it, the noise has taken the enjoyment out of opening my feed reader.
The solution I've come up with is to use a couple of tags.
I have a "Daily" tag for things that are lovely or timely. Like posts from Extra Ordinary, Echo One, Goul, Standard Ebooks, and of course Jane and Breezy. This gives me permission to drop in to the reader, and slurp the good, healthy stuff.
The other tag I have is "Once a week", for want of a better name, and that gives me permission to let the unread count rack up and up. It's usually three digits, and that's fine because I'll get to it eventually (probably), without ignoring the things I love to read. None of it's a chore: there's just a lot of it.
I'm using Unread for feeds, but I'm sure other readers will have tags or folders which will likely do the exact same thing.
