On the bus today, I was failing to get my phone back into my jacket pocket. Turned out there was a beer mat wedged in there, and I remember now that these were given out at the Brighton Pint of Science event back in May.
It’s a lovely event. Three short talks and Q&A in a pub. We’re lucky in Brighton to have an active Cafe Sci every month, but that’s a longer single talk with Q&A (in a great place with a bar). So: Pint of Science is a good complement, sampling a few subjects. Don’t like one? Don’t worry, another will be along.
On the night I went, it was Opeyemi Makanjuola’s talk that stood out. “Bugs, Bleach, and Carbon”, about packaging and sterilisation of equipment in the NHS, how much transport is involved, and what might be possible locally.
I’ll certainly keep an eye out for next year’s Pint of Science. And should I find another beer mat in my pocket, you’ll be the first to know.
